Aleksandra Popova (b. 2002) is based in Oslo, Norway. Her practice explores protection as a primal instinct that has shaped human experience, belief, and storytelling across time. Working primarily through metal, scale, and symbolic form, she investigates how this impulse is transformed into rite, object, and gesture. Drawn to the traditions and beliefs connected to her own cultural origins, Popova explores how ancestral symbols and practices continue to exist in contemporary life. Moving between the personal and the collective, she reflects on the human need for protection, connection, and meaning. Aleksandra holds a BA in Metal Art and Jewellery and a BA in Art Pedagogy from the National Academy of Art and is currently pursuing an MA in Metal Art and Jewellery at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts. Her work has been presented in exhibitions across Europe. In 2026, she received the Grand Prix – Minister of Culture and National Heritage Award at the 34th edition of the Legnica Silver Festival, following a nomination at its 31st edition in 2023, and was awarded the Annual Student Award for High Achievement in Medallic Sculpture in 2024. Popova’s practice also includes workshops, symposia, and interdisciplinary collaborations.

Humans are leaving an imprint of destruction to our planet. I feel such rage about it that it burns me like fire. The same fire that destroys thousands of forests and turns them into fields of embers.
