Alice Davies

I am an English artist based in Oslo. ​I tell material stories through sculpture and time-based media, exploring relations and histories between clay, bodies and natural phenomena, such as magnetism, water and rock. I draw from early and premodern worldviews that recognise the liveliness of our physical surroundings and the elemental correspondences within them, from western esoteric teachings, archaeological sites and ancient monuments. My process begins with experiments revealing hidden material properties, I translate these findings into a poetic and playful visual language which draws closer to the imaginative and sensory experience of situations. Through clay, and the unexpected sites and stories it leads me to, I attempt to reorientate my understanding of our shared histories towards material and relational perspectives.
