Cristina Mariani is an Italian visual artist based in Oslo, she is currently in the final year of her Master's in Medium and Material Based Art at Kunsthøgskolen i Oslo. With a background in web design and textile, after being involved in the fashion industry, she felt the urge to reflect on the enormous carbon footprint of textile production, and started looking for a way to make her practice more ecologically sustainable. She is interested in how human perception shapes our relationship with the more-than-human: from soil and rocks as immutable and inert entities to the exploitation and collaboration with sentinel species like seaweed, mussels and earthworms. Her current artistic research is focused on biomaterials, ephemeral combination of biopolymers used in the food industry mixed with local natural materials.
