Jenny Hamrell
Keramikk / Leire
Jenny Hamrell (b. 1996) born and raised in stockholm, Sweden, and is currently based in Venabygd, Norway. She has studied art and ceramics in Italy, Sweden, the United States, and Norway, and holds an MFA in Medium- and Material-Based Arts with a focus on ceramics from the Oslo National Academy of the Arts (KHiO). Hamrell investigates neurodivergence through the ceramic medium, treating it as both subject and methodology. Using layered surfaces, multiple firings, and experimental combinations of ceramic glaze and enamel, her work challenges fixed modes of perception and categorization. She navigates the tension between structure and fluidity, treating surface as a dimensional space where depth, texture, and color emerge through process-driven experimentation. Material research is central to her practice, and she draws on cross-disciplinary techniques to extend the expressive potential of the human form within ceramic sculpture and relief. Writing functions alongside making as a critical component of Hamrell’s practice. Through essays and reflective texts, she engages with questions of craft, neurodivergence, and knowledge production, situating material-based work within broader societal contexts. Her work has been acquired by Art in the Workplace (KPA).
